What Drives the Cost of Packaging Printing in Dubai

The six factors that actually move a packaging quote in the UAE, and how to brief a supplier so the price you get back is comparable.

Two suppliers can quote the same box and differ widely, usually because the brief left decisions open. Cost in packaging is built from quantity, structure, material, printing method, finishing and assembly.

Quantity and setup

Most of a rigid box price is fixed setup: cutting dies, foil dies, plate making and machine make-ready. Those costs are spread over the run, so the unit price falls sharply between a small pilot and a full production order. Ask for a price ladder (for example three quantity steps) instead of a single number.

Structure

A simple lid-and-base is the cheapest premium format. Every added element adds labour: magnetic closure, ribbon pull, drawer sleeve, hinged lid, window cut, internal EVA or paper insert.

Material

Greyboard thickness, the wrap paper, and whether the paper is coated, uncoated, textured or specialty all change cost. Specialty imported papers usually carry longer lead times too.

Printing method

Offset printing suits larger runs with photographic artwork. Screen printing suits solid colour on textured stock. Digital suits short runs and versioning. Spot Pantone colours cost more than process colour but protect brand equity.

Finishing

Hot foil, embossing, spot UV, soft-touch lamination and edge painting are each a separate pass on the machine. Two finishes on one box is common; five is usually a brief that has not been edited.

Assembly and logistics

Hand-assembled boxes carry labour per unit. Flat-packed formats reduce both assembly and freight. If the box ships filled, check that the structure survives courier handling.

How to brief so quotes are comparable

Internal dimensions of the product, not the box
Target quantity plus one higher step
Board and wrap preference, or ask for a recommendation
Number of print colours and any Pantone references
Finishing list in priority order
Delivery date and delivery location in the UAE

Send the same brief to every supplier. If one quote is far lower, check what was quietly removed.
